Military retirees and families will have new dental and vision options soon.   The U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) recently announced that during the Federal Benefits Open Season (November 12, 2018 through December 10, 2018, EST) many retirees, retiree family members, and active duty personnel family members will have the opportunity to enroll  in a dental and/or vision plan under the Federal Employees Dental and Vision Insurance Program (FEDVIP).  FEDVIP offers the opportunity to choose from ten different dental plans and four different vision plans.  All eligible family members must enroll in the same plan.

The TRICARE Retiree Dental Plan (TRDP) will end on December 31, 2018.

TRDP members may enroll during the 2018 Federal Benefits Open Season in their choice of FEDVIP dental plans.  TRDP enrollees must take action to enroll in a FEDVIP plan in order to receive dental benefits starting on January 1, 2019.  When TRDP ends at the end of 2018, there will be no automatic enrollment in FEDVIP.

For Active Service Personnel and Families:

For the first time, most military families will have the option to sign-up for vision benefits.  They must be enrolled in a TRICARE Health Plan to enroll in FEDVIP Vision and can select from four carriers.
